8 Tips to Creating the Ideal Study Zone

With Spring arriving and exams around the corner for many students, now is the time for a spring clean to help you get ready! Creating a good study space really helps you get your revision off to the best start. Here are 8 top tips to help you ‘spring in to study time!’.
Find a space! It is best to choose a quiet area away from the busy zones like kitchens and downstairs spaces - and ideally not your own bedroom! Studies have shown that studying on your bed means you may not sleep as well when you go to bed. If you need/want to study in your bedroom - try to have a break away from your room after you study, to reset before bedtime.
It helps to have somewhere permanent where you can set up your books / files / computer and return to each time. You don’t want to have to move your stuff around each time.
Have as large a table / desk as possible and a comfortable chair.
Studying on the sofa or bed is not ideal. It is best to study in similar conditions to the exam, and where you have space to lay out your revision materials. A good chair means you won’t tire as quickly and can revise without getting uncomfortable!
Have a spring clean of your space! Decluttering helps you prepare and get organised. A busy, full space can be distracting. Get rid of items you don’t need and organise your books and resources tidily.
Make sure you have all the equipment and storage you need. New pens, post-its, poster paper, blu-tac are very useful resources for revision!
Get a calendar, make sure you plan out your days - revision time and time off. It is really helpful to be able to see the important dates and to keep you on track for your deadlines. You can also work backwards from your exams to ensure you can plan to cover all your revision topics.
Clear wall space, put up a whiteboard! Studies show that calm walls help focus. Having a dry-wipe whiteboard to practise diagrams, answer questions, lists of topics, mind-maps etc is very useful and can change up your usual revision style.
Charge your phone in another room! As tempting as it is to have it beside you on your table, keep your phone away! Studies show that the presence of a phone on the table beside you, means your brain is not fully engaged with the revision task. It is really hard to concentrate with notifications popping up all the time or to focus with the option of chatting to friends at your fingertips!
Finally, make sure you keep your room tidy so it feels calm and organised! Also, put up some photos and certificates of achievements somewhere in the house to encourage you and remind you of why you are working hard! It will be worth it!
